Jim Powell is an Assistant Professor of Public Administration with the University of Alaska Southeast as well as a collaborator on various SNAP projects. Jim is studying responses to climate change in Southeast Alaska communities and institutions. He has extensive experience and education spanning 30 years in scientific and policy positions in environmental management, with specialized experience in community sustainability indicators and decision making, wetland ecology, and water quality.
Jim served in elected office as Deputy Mayor and Assembly Member for the City and Borough of Juneau Alaska for nine years. Jim has a PhD in Natural Resources and Sustainability from UAF. His dissertation topic was community sustainability indicators and adaptive learning. Jim received a Masters in Public Administration from University of Alaska Southeast and a BA in Environmental Studies from Rochester Institute of Technology, at Eisenhower College.
